Why we focus on healthcare and the built environment

By Lauwerens, CEO

At Innovattic, we regularly get the question: why do you focus specifically on healthcare and the built environment? Two sectors that at first glance may seem to have little in common. But when I looked more closely, I saw that they are actually quite similar in terms of technology.

The healthcare sector and the built environment are places we interact with every day, whether we consciously notice it or not. Technology plays a key role in improving these sectors, with the aim of making people's lives easier, healthier and more sustainable. But why exactly these two sectors? In this blog post, I like to explain.

Healthcare: a direct impact on people's lives

In healthcare, the need for technological innovation is clear. Staff shortages due to a double ageing population: we are getting older and the workforce is going to be significantly smaller. Technology can change - and save - lives here. Our customers/partners (whatever you want to call it) are developing digital solutions that make care more accessible and personalised, allowing people to recover faster. For example, smart apps and gamification techniques help patients to rehabilitate more effectively, increasing their motivation and reducing the pressure on healthcare providers.

The healthcare sector is also a place where innovation can have the biggest direct impact on people's lives. By automating administrative tasks and streamlining care processes, we give healthcare providers space to focus on what really matters: caring for people.

For me, life is about having nice people around you. Almost without exception, people working in care have one thing in common: they want to help others. How nice it is to work with these passionate people!

Built environment: for a more sustainable future

Besides the healthcare sector, Innovattic also focuses on the built environment. Why? Because the built environment is responsible for as much as 40% of global CO2 emissions. That percentage has to come down if we want to contribute to a more sustainable future. We thought about which companies are currently doing very well in that area, and there are many! So we started looking a bit more for an angle that suits us well and we came across some very nice initiatives there that we are happy to contribute to.

Firstly, ‘smart buildings’, with their smart sensors and automated systems, can help optimise energy consumption and reduce environmental impact. Measuring is knowing. If you apply a measure to your building, you do want to know whether it has the right effect. You also get much more insight into how a building is performing and where the areas for improvement are. Fortunately, many parties are working on it, which is great to see. EDGE Technologies and BAM Energy Systems, among others, have high-profile projects that we will probably tell you about.

But it's not just about sustainability. As in healthcare, digitisation and automation can also improve efficiency and optimise processes. There is still so much room for improvement: from smart energy solutions to technology that predicts maintenance. At Innovattic, we see the huge potential of innovations from these companies to make our living environment healthier and more sustainable, and we are happy to help them take that step.

What do healthcare and the built environment have to do with each other?

Whether it's improving healthcare with technology so that people recover faster and care becomes more accessible, or making our buildings more sustainable to reduce CO2 emissions-the goal remains the same. We believe in the power of technology to bring positive change, and it is in these two sectors that we currently see the greatest opportunity to make that change happen (at least... with the knowledge we have now).

And the most important reason?

We work with passionate people who, like us, believe that something needs to be done and that technology can do a lot for the better of the sector. Together, we make innovations that are not only smarter, but also contribute to a better, more sustainable world. So get to work!
